“India is not a country. It is a world.” — Shashi Tharoor

If you’re planning a visit to India, here’s what you should know—beyond the postcards. Start in the Golden Triangle: Delhi, Agra, and Jaipur. It’s perfect for first-time travelers. You get a taste of India’s ancient forts, Mughal gardens, bustling bazaars, and of course—the Taj Mahal! Buy your entry ticket online to skip queues. Go at sunrise. Fewer crowds, better light.

Next, head south. Kerala offers peaceful backwaters and Ayurveda retreats. Book a houseboat for a night—it’s a floating hotel with home-cooked food. Safe, serene, and soul-refreshing.

For mountains? Go north. Himachal or Ladakh are ideal between May and September. Hire a local guide for treks. The air is thin, but the views are endless. Pack warm layers. Even in summer, nights can be freezing!

Use trains or flights for long distances. India’s vast. Distances can be deceiving. For short city rides, auto-rickshaws are quick and fun. Always agree on the fare or insist on the meter.

Stay connected. Get a local SIM at the airport. Airtel and Jio work well across most regions.

Respect local customs. Dress modestly, especially in temples. Always take off your shoes before entering. A smile goes a long way.

Travel light. Stay curious. And let India unfold at its own pace. I’ve been more than once—and each time, I left with more questions than answers. That’s the magic. That’s India.
