Tungnath Mandir is one of the oldest and World highest Shiva temple located in Devbhoomi, Uttarakhand.
Tungnath Mandir is around 5000 years old lord Shiva temple and considered to be the world’s highest Shiva temples in the world located at an altitude of 3680M.

Tungnath has so many stories according to the stories people believe that during the war of Mahabharata, Pandavas won their cousin brothers.
As Vyas Rishi advised the Pandavas that since they were capable of slaying their own relatives their act could be pardoned only by Lord Shiva. Also, Lord Shiva was angry on Pandavas because of the sins they made and did not want to pardon them.
As just to avoid the Pandavas Lord Shiva took the form of a bull and went into hiding in an underground safe haven at Guptkashi, Where Pandavas Chased Shiva and they recognised Shiva and Shiva was not want to pardon Pandavas and got very angry then Shiva body which is in the form of bull rematerialized at five different locations.
Pandavas built temple of Lord Shiva in all the five places after seeking pardon and blessings.
Out of Five kedars, Tungnath is the third Kedar where pilgrims do pooja, just after Tungnath Mandir about 2-3 Km above you will see a peak named Chandrashila and there is a Mandir on that peak, At Tungnath the Head priest is from the nearby village.
People from all over world come to Tungnath to visit the Highest Shiva temple and take blessing of there well being it is one among the five Kedar so people coming to Char Dham Yatra come and visit the temple.

Lord Rama icon of Ramayana mediated at Chandrashila peak, which is a head of Tungnath temple it is also said that Ravana did penance for Lord Shiva it is also known as Ravana Shila.
Once you start from Tungnath a steep height of 2-3 km for Chandrashila peak after you the top you will see the beauty of Uttarakhand surrounded by THE GREAT INDIAN HIMALAYAS deep valleys and beautiful landscapes and greenery.
A Mandir of Mata is at the peak where there is a priest often you will see people doing Meditation.
How to Reach Tungnath Mandir?
The best way to reach Tungnath by vehicle the distance is 470Km from Delhi, roads are well maintained but in last 15-20Km till Chopta roads are narrow and one has to be careful while driving.
During day time the beauty is mesmerizing across the roads covered with deodar pin trees all around and surrounded by beautiful dense forest cover.
It is a short trek covering a distance of 3-5Km and one can easily cover in one day with family for camping you can only do it in Bugyal above Chopta but for that you have to take prior permission from forest department.
Yes it is a family trek, it comes under moderate people of all age group can be apart of it.
What is the Best time to visit Tungnath ?
It is open 365 days the choice is yours’s you can plan both in winters and summer. The best time is summer when the entire region is covered with lush green covers.
(Note: If you are planning with family then it is advised in summer and moreover the beautiful scenic beauty, Himalayas, meadows can be experienced well in summer)
It starts from Chopta and till Tungnath the distance is 3km approx. and if you planning till Chandrashila then it further extend for another 1.5Km, So, the entire trek is of 05Km approx.
How can old age or person with Disabilities can do Darshan in Tungnath ?
The terrain is easy and the distance is less so, Pony service and palki service is also available for which you can get in touch with the local person the rates may vary.
Yes you can even people first go to Kedarnath and Badrinath then on the way back they come to Tungnath as the distance of Kedarnath from Tungnath is 35-45Km approx.
